Be YourSelf is an intense musical journey that tells the artistic and personal story of Nick The Nightfly, through many different styles, from jazz to soul, from pop to lounge. The album is rich in influences of evocative places, meetings with great artists and in all the sounds that have accompanied the historical voice of Monte Carlo Radio since the beginning of his “Monte Carlo Nights” programme. The writing of “Be YourSelf” has been a long journey, musically satisfying, full of friendships, journeys, clubs, different cities, festivals and marvellous people”, says Nick The Nightfly. “I feel like I have written a real music journey that starts from Italy and ends in my home country, Scotland, passing through Paris, Brazil, New York and Chicago, to then go back to my beloved Italy”. The album was presented live on 1st December in Milan (Blue Note), with several guests, and from 28th to 1st January 2019 in Orvieto (Umbria Jazz).

Nick the Nightfly was born in Glasgow (Scotland) and has been living in Italy since 1982. Nick the Nightfly was born in Glasgow (Scotland) and has been living in Italy since 1982. He is known for the radio programme he introduced in Italy twenty years ago and still leads today, “Monte Carlo Nights”. But he is also a popular singer, he plays the guitar and composes pieces of great artistic value, such as the one composed for Andrea Bocelli, called “Semplicemente”, whose lyrics have been written by Maurizio Costanzo. On the radio he has hosted and interviewed many highly prestigious figures such as Sting, Peter Gabriel, David Sylvian, Herbie Hancock, Caetano Veloso, Annie Lennox and many others. He often plays live with his guests on the radio, like for example when he played with the great Pat Metheny, giving the audience of “Monte Carlo Nights” the special treat of a live performance. He performed with Michael Bublè, Giovanni Allevi, Giorgia, Carmen Consoli, David Knopfler, Incognito, Ludovico Einaudi, Sarah Jane Morris and Yellow Jackets, etc. In 1995 he won the prestigious Telegatto prize as “the best voice of Italian radio night programmes”. At the end of the 90s, Nick was able to bring back to the radio, after years of absence, the great Renzo Arbore. Together, on Radio Capital, they did the radio show entitled “Aperitivo con Swing”, with music and tales of the great swing and jazz music. In addition to his radio activity, in the past Nick has led “Jammin”, a music programme broadcast on the TV channel Italia 1, with the tv presenter Federica Panicucci. He also presented, in collaboration with Afeff, the music and fashion show called “Montecarlo Hits”, live from the square of the Principality of Monaco. Nick also hosted the live of Heineken Jammin Festival from Imola (Italy). Nick The Nightfly now curates more than 25 compilations, 13 of which bring the name “The Nightfly”. He has also collaborated in the prestigious series “Classici di Montecarlo Nights”, that today represents cult objects for collectors. Since 2003 Nick is the artistic director of the “Blue Note” in Milan and of the “Milano Jazzin Festival” that is held in July at the Arena Civica in Milan.
